Requiem Mass and funeral of Father Jacques, SMM

Sintang – On Easter Sunday Father Jacques Maessen, SMM began treatment at Sintang Hospital. Father Jacques Maessen was treated for a stroke, blood clots and heart problems. After being treated for a week in Sintang, he was finally referred to Antonius Hospital, Pontianak accompanied by Bro. Nikolaus Narimo, SMM. In Potianak, Father Jacques Maessen was treated intensively and was also accompanied by three Montfortans: Bro. Nikolaus Narimo, Br. Lambert, and Br. Lius. After three weeks of treatment at Antonius Hospital, Pontianak, Father Jacques Maessen breathed his last breath. But at this last moment, two SMM Brothers remained loyal to accompany him. Father Jacques Maessen's body was taken to Montfort Monastery, Sintang. To be buried there. Many faithful and confreres were waiting for his body at the Monastery.

Father Jacques Maessen's funeral procession began with a eucharistic celebration at the Sintang Diocese Cathedral led by Msgr. Samuel Otonsidin, bishop of Sintang Diocese. Apart from the Montfortians, a number of priests in the Diocese of Sintang also participated in the celebration of the requiem Mass. The Cathedral Church was filled with believers, monks and nuns.

After the celebration of the requiem Mass, Father Jacques Maessen's body was taken back to the Montfort Menyurai Monastery for burial. The funeral ceremony was led by Father Avelianus Amput, SMM. The funeral procession was also attended by many parishioners, priests, nuns and brothers. Father Jacques Maessen was buried next to the grave of Brother Piet, SMM.

After the funeral, prayers for Father Jacques Maessen did not stop. Prayers for Father Jacques Maessen will be held for seven days and on the seventh day there will be a eucharistic celebration.
